BTEC Level 3 Acting
This course is for experienced and talented students who are looking to develop further their all round performance skills. Lessons have a practical, theoretical and vocational focus and students will be required to take part in a variety of performances throughout the course. The BTEC course has the flexibility for one unit to be selected to suit student needs with each new cohort. The National Extended Certificate in Performing Arts (Acting) is equivalent to one A level.
The course consists of 4 units (3 of which are mandatory plus one optional unit.)
The courses covers a broad basis of study with a focus on performance, technique
development and professional practice.
The entry requirements for this course are 5 GCSEs at grades 4-9 (or BTEC equivalents).
Applicants will also be required to attend an audition.
Investigating Practitioners (marked externally)
Developing Skills and Techniques for Live Performance (marked internally)
Group Performance Workshop (marked externally)
Optional Unit (marked internally)
Optional units include Interpreting Classical text for performance, Acting Styles, Improvisation and Movement in Performance.
All units are assessed individually; the final grade is an aggregate of the grades achieved in the units.

On successful completion of a BTEC in Acting, students can progress onto employment and/or continue their study of Acting/Drama at appropriate higher education establishments. The natural progression to employment would be as actors, Drama/Performing Arts teachers, working on TV and radio, in the theatre, theatre in education, arts management, etc. This course would compliment other arts subjects, particularly Music, Dance, Media and also English.
